Every generation has an event that makes it afraid to turn off the television for fear of what happens next. The Challenger Shuttle Explosion was ours. We had watched Sally Ride go up in the same craft as the first American woman in space a couple of years before. Christa McAuliffe was to be the first teacher in space, which is why we were all tuned in classrooms across the country.
