I was thinking of ditching this blog and merging it with my El Jay because I’m too lazy to be updating more than one thing. But then I realised that perhaps there are people who don’t care about reading the meagre bits of waffling and only want to look at pictures.

So yeah, from this point on is a mammoth splurge of all the bits I’ve posted on my other blog.

I helped out a friend a few months back by providing some doodles for his Masters magazine project. I finally got my copy back in July I think.

Went to Nexus art café on Saturday for a sketchbook session with some friends. I was terribly hungover from celebrating a friend’s birthday the night before however and didn’t get much done.

This is all I drew that afternoon…

It’s actually based on an old Derek Yu character, except it wasn’t a monkey originally. I dunno why, but I keep drawing monkeys!

Munny shot

Et voila! The ‘secret’ project that I was working on, is the customised Munny I made for my friend Estée’s birthday! :D

Pics taken from her blog!

Things to note about this:

  • It’s a Zombie Monkey that’s rather annoyed with the axe lodged in it’s head!
  • The number ‘8’ is considered the luckiest in Chinese tradition
  • means “good” or “positive” in Chinese
  • The left arm as seen from the rear-view is a smiley aubergine!
  • Coloured using POSCA paint markers

Scribbled this today in the office when I should’ve been working! hahaha

Another doodle… I re-drew a better version later for my friend’s burfday card!

And some stickers I made! Need to think of where I can go to “tag” them with tho… ;)

Last but not least, this is my submission to Wooster Collective’s masthead thing (different weekly banners). Did it in MS Excel at work (as always!) ;)

In other news, I’ve been given a really exciting, scary but wonderful illustration opportunity! I still need to brainstorm ideas and figure out how to approach it however. It’s my first real challenge and one I’ll have to work really hard for! :O

Wow, haven’t posted here for a while.

I’m working on a little project that I can’t reveal just yet! ;)

In the meantime here’s a little doodle I did. I’ve only just realised that it’s pretty much the same as my previous pic that I posted! Except this is a Hip Hop cat and the one before is a Guitar Rocking bird! XD

I don’t think the camphone pic does it justice. The colours are a lot more vibrant in the flesh, but it’s only camera I have at the mo!

It’s one year to the day since my friend Stuart passed away. I miss him dearly and he is still on my thoughts most days.

I was thinking about him late last night when I drew this random piece. So I’ll dedicate it in loving memory to him.

Mmm, feeling a bit low at the moment. I always seem to have these inexplicable and uncontrollable downturns in mood from time to time. One week I can feel really confident and get stuff done, at other times I just feel that *everything* is pointless. At the moment, I’m questioning if I even have the ability to get onto the course I mentioned previously… :(

Anyway, here’s a splurge of stuff I’ve done over the past week.

I had a strange dream t’other night where I had my interview for this Design course that I hope to start in September.

In this dream, the interviewers gave me feedback straight after. They told me that they hated pretty much everything from my portfolio that I had presented… with the exception of the pixel art stuff that I had done in MS Excel! I was quite taken aback by this, that they wouldn’t have accepted me if it wasn’t for this.

I’m currently working in an Office job, where I’m pretty much stuck in front of a computer all day. I can’t really get my creative juices flowing without it looking blatantly obvious that I’m skiving work.

So I started messing around with Excel spreadsheets one day, and realised that I could resize cells and create a suitable grid for pixelling. I simply used the highlighter/fill function to colour in the individual cells.

Anyway, I panicked a bit and I’ve started pixelling in Excel again. Here’s two pieces that I’ve done over the past two evenings.  Step back and squint! ;)
